An entrepreneur needs to know their target market AND speak their language. We invest so much time in connecting with the public and community to gain exposure, trust and respect. But what if the time you are investing in this task is on the wrong people? You need to know who your target market is. If you’re wasting time on the wrong clientele, what is it costing you?

Albert Einstein said it best, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results.” If this is you, then you are wasting your precious time trying to put a square peg into a round hole. If you are trying to connect with the same type of people and are not converting them into paying clients, then it’s time to examine your ideal client, also known as your avatar.

If you are scheduling time to connect with potential clients and not getting the results you are hoping for, you will become stressed and uncertain about your business and your decisions. When you are in this state, it affects every aspect of your life, time and money. You are standing in the way of your own success! Not only are you wasting your time on the wrong clientele, who are not your target market, but the thoughts of doubt and frustration will also fill your mind while you try and complete other items and tasks on your schedule, which will slow you down in all areas of your life. 

It is like being angry in a traffic jam. Have you ever noticed that the traffic jam seems to be worse and drawn out when you are frustrated or angry? If you choose to relax, put on some music and lip-sync to your favourite song, the traffic jam becomes survivable and maybe even fun.

So, let’s get you out of this crazy traffic jam and onto the highway of having amazing customers. Make time in your schedule to:

  1. Create your perfect avatar. 

    It is so important to write down who your ideal client is. In some situations, you will notice that your ideal client is who you were five years ago. A few items to consider is their age, gender, lifestyle, finances, challenges and needs.

  2. Research your avatar.

    Now that you know exactly who your ideal client is, it is time to find out more about them. You need to know their likes and dislikes, where to find them online and offline, how they spend their time and lastly, how to speak their language. This will build the trust and respect that you need to build your community of customers.
  1. Time to connect & communicate.

    It’s time to build trust and respect within your communities. Direct your blog posts, articles and social media towards your ideal client. Speak their language and share your story. Remember, you are a human and have a story that your community will value. Sharing your stories will also gain the respect that you need.

Connecting with your target market, niche, avatar, etc. on their level and speaking their language is the strongest way to gain your ideal customers. When you are serving your ideal customer, your life becomes easier, business becomes ‘funner’ (yes, I said ‘funner’) and your time will seem to multiply because you are working with people you love and respect.
